In the huddle…

Blanding, a senior WR, is the Bulldogs’ leading receiver with 42 catches for 683 yards on the season. After a 1-3 start, Pendleton won its last six regular season games to finish 7-3 and in second place in the Skyline AA. This week, Pendleton faces No. 9 Chesnee in the first round of the AA playoffs.

On what it feels like to be a senior entering the playoffs, where every game could be your last…

“It’s like this Friday could be our last time as a senior to play football again at this high school. So, it’s like, everything you can do, you better try to do it. That’s how I feel.”

On the difference in the team’s excitement level once the playoffs roll around…

“It’s more intense. When we come out to practice, everybody’s more energized – especially on defense.”

On his on-field chemistry with quarterback John Michael Gibson…

“I believe in him, and he believes in me. We can make eye contact, and he’ll know how to throw it and when to throw it. And he knows if he throws it up, I can get it and stuff like that.”

On the pressure that comes along with being the team’s go-to receiver…

“Well, there is some games because it’s kind of hard to make routes – when we play some teams they’ll try to double team me and whatnot. It helps our running game though when they try to double team me or it helps us throw to other people.”

On the Bulldogs’ slow start to the season…

“After we started 1-3, it felt like we were kind of like down. But it was just the beginning and we were playing AAA teams and stuff like that. Other than that, once we started clicking, I felt like we were going to come out on top.”
