Sporting holds Porto 0-0 in Portugal
LISBON, Portugal (AP) — Sporting held FC Porto to 0-0 to keep the Portuguese league race wide open on Saturday.
Sporting rallied from a humiliating 5-0 midweek defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League — its heaviest loss ever in European competition — to deny Porto victory at Dragao Stadium for a fourth straight year.
Three-time defending champion Porto stretched its unbeaten run to 13 league games to lead with 42 points, while Benfica moved clear into second with 40 after beating Leixoes 2-1 on Friday.
Sporting was third with 38 while Nacional joined Leixoes on 35 points after beating Academica 3-1 on Saturday.
Also on Saturday, Pacos Ferreira beat Rio Ave 2-0 in a match featuring two teams battling the drop.
On Sunday, Trofense plays Amadora, Belenenses hosts Naval, and Setubal is at Maritimo.
Sporting Braga can also reach 35 points with a victory against Guimaraes on Monday.
