Salem Lions Club hears plight of Shriners Hospital for Children

SALEM β€” The Salem Lions Club held its June meeting to present awards, say good-bye to their departing officers and welcome the new president and staff for the 2009-2010 year. Special guest Hejaz Shriner Paul George was invited to say a few words on behalf of Shriners Hospital for Children in Greenville. β€œIt has been difficult for Shriners Hospitals for Children in this economic downturn. With 22 hospitals operating in North America, we are facing the possibility of having to close several of them, to include our Greenville, S.C. hospital in order to reduce operating costs. Shriners Hospital for Children has always offered its services free of charge to all minor children ages birth to 18. If the Greenville Hospital closes, we will be forced to transport our patients to our next nearest Shriners Hospital for Children in Lexington, Ky.,” said George.
