Panthers sign rookie Robinson to four-year deal
CHARLOTTE, N.C (AP) _ Ryne Robinson became the second Carolina Panthers’ draft pick to come to terms when the former Miami of Ohio receiver and punt returner signed a four-year, $2.1 million contract this week.
Robinson’s agent, David Canter, said Friday that Robinson inked the deal in West Palm Beach, Fla., early in the week. It included a $438,000 signing bonus.
Robinson joins fifth-round pick Dante Rosario, who signed early this month.
The Panthers still have six unsigned draft picks, including first rounder Jon Beason and second round choices Dwayne Jarrett and Ryan Kalil.
Carolina hopes Robinson helps turn around the NFL’s worst punt-returning unit. With cornerback Chris Gamble handling most punts, the Panthers averaged only 4.6 yards per return last season.
Robinson, who returned seven punts for touchdowns in college, was the nation’s active leader with 1,677 punt return yards. Robinson also hopes to crack the receiver rotation.
