Townville Elementary School ‘Walks for Water’
FOR THE JOURNAL
TOWNVILLE —Townville Elementary School participated in its first Walk for Water this past November. The Walk was to raise money for a worthwhile cause with a goal of raising $2,000 to purchase 50 water filters for schoolchildren in Haiti. The goal was exceeded! They raised $2,100 and walked a recorded 272 miles as a school.
The walk was in conjunction with International Child Care Ministries, which routinely supplies water filters and other necessities for Haiti, and Fitness Finders, an educational supply company. Fitness Finders matched every dollar raised, which doubled the amount of water filters sent. The school was excited to participate, and students learned lessons about helping the less fortunate. Little did they know that the filters would be delivered at the most opportune time.
Fitness Finders reported that the filters were shipped to Haiti right before the recent devastating earthquake, but didn’t arrive until a few days ago.
The timing was perfect, indeed. International Child Care Ministries is setting up the filters in strategic places to help provide clean water to the people affected by the earthquake and in some other areas of the country as well. Townville Elementary and its supporters are making a difference, one step — and one drop of water — at a time.
